Forsyth County Detention Facility
The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office Law Enforcement Detention Center is a maximum-security adult facility that sits on a 400,000 square feet structure. It is located at 210 North Church Street, Winston-Salem, NC, 27101, and was built in 1938. This facility houses male and female sentenced misdemeanant and pretrial offenders. The Forsyth County Detention Center is an eleven-story twin-tower structure with 735 modular steer cells and a bed capacity of 1016 inmates.
This facility offers its inmates a Jail Choices Program, which consists of elective projects for qualifying detainees. Additionally, other opportunities are offered for inmates in this facility, including computer education, GED, financial and anger management, and inmate substance abuse treatment.
Forsyth Correctional Center
Forsyth Correctional Center is a minimum-custody prison located at 307 Craft Drive, Winston-Salem, NC, 27105. Some detainees in this facility may be eligible for work release, which allows them to work a job in the surrounding community during the day and return to the correctional center at the end of their shift. Work release normally allows inmates to prepare for their release financially by slowly acclimating them to life outside of prison. Of the 248 adult male inmates housed in this facility, only a quarter qualify for work release. However, other offenders can work on road crews and jobs within the institution, such as custodial maintenance and preparing inmate meals in the kitchen.
Forsyth County Center offers several inmate programs to the detainees, including Drug and alcohol recovery treatment program and Narcotics and Alcoholics Anonymous.
