About Cleveland County Jail 

The Cleveland County detention is a medium-security facility arranged on eight sections of land in Shelby metropolitan. The facility is situated at 407 McBrayer Street, Shelby, NC, 28150, and was built in 1989. The facility contains a 324-bed office accommodating pre-preliminary prisoners. Due to the high population in the jail, Cleveland County detention center provides reintegration programming to male condemned criminals. The monthly average total bookings in the facility are about 304 and are supervised by well-trained staff members. On the other hand, the Cleveland County facility utilizes more than 162 prisoners in its office work lines to assist administrations with its kitchen and clothing, among other activities. The biggest population of inmates housed in the facility is men, with 20% being women. 

The Cleveland County detention facility operates under the Cleveland County sheriff, Federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement 9ICE), and Federal U.S Marshal, among other government agencies. 

About Shelby City Jail 

The Shelby City jail is a medium-security office located at 311 South Lafayette Street, Shelby, North Carolina, 28150. The police pick up the facility houses about 21inmates and most offenders in Shelby city. After the arrest, the offenders can either stay in the facility or be transferred to the Cleveland County detention facility until the trial. 

About Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office 

Sheriff Alan Norman is the current head of the Cleveland County sheriff’s office. This office is a law enforcement agency in charge of policing and patrolling, among other duties. The sheriff’s office works in hand with the following divisions: 

Civil Division 

The patrol captain leads the civil division of the sheriff’s office. The division is responsible for providing services and executing different processes given by and for the court in Cleveland County. There are five main types of civil operations issued by the court: judgment, summons, pleadings, court orders, and reports. The unit consists of seven officers, one Lieutenant, one Sergeant, and five deputies. The above persons are in charge of serving about 1000 papers per month as well as the main incident reports and warrant services conducted at the law enforcement center. 

Detention Division 

 The Cleveland County sheriff’s correction division comprises two facilities. The division is committed to providing safety to staff, citizens, and inmates. Moreover, the detention division provides inmates with various programs to help them acquire new skills which will help them after completing their sentence. 

Patrol Division 

Jon Wright leads the Cleveland County patrol division. The division’s primary function is to respond to calls for service in the County’s unincorporated parts and small municipalities. In addition, the division is in charge of preventive patrol, the service of criminal and civil processes, transportation, and helping other agencies upon request. 

About Cleveland County 

Cleveland County is located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains on the southern border of the U.S. state of North Carolina. The County was founded in 184 and named after Colonel Benjamin Cleveland, who participated in the patriot victory at the battle of King’s Mountain. Its county seat is Shelby. According to the 2020 census, the County has a total population of 99519 and covers a total area of 468 square miles (1210km).
