Ideally, when you do not know where your inmate is, the first place you need to check is the county jail’s inmate roster. This is because when an individual is arrested in Washington County, they are likely to end up in the Washington County Jail. And you can access it per the NC Freedom of information Act.

The inmate roster is searchable by name, date of incarceration, age, and charges. You can find the Washington County inmate roster on the County sheriff’s office website. However, it doesn’t mean it’s final if you cannot find them on the roster. Furthermore, sometimes the inmate may be in the facility but has not yet completed their booking and orientation process. Again, the website is updated in intervals.

If that is the case, you must call the jail administration at 252-793-1107 and request them to locate an inmate who fits your description. You can also opt to visit the jail by yourself.

Other Alternatives

If you cannot find them in the Washington County Jail, you can check if they are in the state or federal prisons. To check if they are in the federal prisons, visit the BOP inmate locator tool to search by name or number (FBI, BOP, INS, DCDC number).

On the other hand, you can check if they are state facilities by visiting the NCDPS offender search page to locate them by their names or DOC-issued number.

You can also check if they are detained by ICE if they are illegal immigrants. ICE maintains an online detainee locator system that is searchable by ICE-issued number, detainee’s name, or country of birth.

These databases are also accessible via third-party websites, which are sometimes free.

NC VINELink

Victims of crimes may register with the NC VINELink to receive notification on any updates regarding their offenders. This may be when the offender nears release, escapes from jail, is transferred to another facility, has a disciplinary record, and any other change in the offender’s incarceration status.

Who is in this jail?

Most detainees in the Washington County Jail are those awaiting trial in the Washington County Courts. However, the facility also incarcerates inmates with non-violent offenses. Again, their sentences must not exceed one year and have a possibility of parole. Furthermore, most prisoners that go through this jail stay there for three months or less.

The jail also houses re-entry inmates for the NCDPS since the department runs a community reintegration program in the jail. In these housing units, the department also houses individuals who violate the terms of their parole, probation, or any other community supervision.

Washington County Jail Staff

Inmates with excellent conduct may become trustees and earn money working there or have their sentences reduced. They may help in the various areas of the prisons, such as maintenance, kitchen, laundry, groundwork, and cleaning. Furthermore, the jail utilizes around 21 trustees daily.
