Pamlico County Jail

Pamlico County Jail is a minimum-security Adult facility located at 200 Main Street, Bayboro, NC, 28515. The 108-bed capacity jail has been operational since and receives approximately 1904 bookings annually. The jail houses inmates from all over the county under the management of the North Carolina Sheriff and the North Carolina Department of Corrections. Notwithstanding its capacities, the jail provides reintegration programming to male convicted criminals.

Annually, the Pamlico County jail utilizes approximately 54 inmates in its office work lines to assist the administration with its clothing, kitchen, and other operations. The facility has about 96 staff members who supervise all the functions to ensure the inmates receive food services, medical care, and a secure environment as required by the law.

Pamlico Correctional Institution

The Pamlico Correctional Institution was founded in 1943 at 601 North Third Street, Bayboro, NC, 28515. The facility houses both medium and high-security offenders. Pamlico Correctional Institution can accommodate up to 819 male offenders. The high-risk offenders are separated from other inmates and kept in a cell with three different compartments, whereby the pods can hold up to 6 cells.

About Pamlico County Sheriff’s Office

Chris Davis heads the Pamlico County Sheriff’s Office. The office has duties in three main areas: the justice system, law enforcement, the courts and corrections, and county communications. In addition, the sheriff’s office is in charge of fingerprinting and maintaining the inmate’s records.

The Pamlico Sheriff’s Office consists of the following divisions;

Patrol Division

The patrol division is the central pillar of the sheriff’s office. It is responsible for various duties, including enforcement of traffic laws, accompanying offenders at the hospital, lake patrol, search and rescue of missing individuals, helping the Crime Prevention Unit with presentations, and helping Fire and Rescue at emergency scenes.

Criminal Investigation Division

The criminal investigation division investigates all crime incidents within Pamlico County. The division follow-up on crimes issued from the patrol division. When the investigation is completed, deputies begin their task of processing a case that will be presented before the court.

Technical Operations

The special operation division comprises various units such as the Tactical Response Team, K-9 Unit, Impact Team, Criminal Analysis and Apprehension Unit, Drugs and vice, and Federal Task Force Officers.

Training Division

The training division offers in-service training for the Pamlico County sheriff’s staff members. The training includes the use of force, hazardous materials recognition, firearms, and blood-borne pathogens.
