Madison County Jail, located at 998 Lower Bridge Street, Marshall, NC, 28753-0998, is a minimum-security facility that houses adult inmates. The jail was built in 1954 and is arranged in 8 sections of land with a 68-bed capacity. The Madison County Sheriff’s Office manages the facility with the help of over 93 staff members. The jail houses inmates awaiting trial and those serving short sentences of less than two years. Inmates go through a classification process to determine their security levels. The North Carolina Department of Public Safety (NCDPS) transfers those with higher security needs to state facilities.
