About Macon County Jail and Other Prisons/Jails Located in The County 

Macon County Detention Center 

Macon County detention center was built in 1999 at 1820 Lakeside Drive, Franklin, NC, 28734. The facility is capable of housing 75 inmates in four dormitories. Male inmates occupy three dormitories, and female inmates occupy one. Two male dormitories have 24 beds each, and one has 12, while the female dormitory has 12 beds. The institution also features two single lockdown cells for special-needs inmates and a medical isolation cell. Security at the dorms is provided through a control room and detention officers who perform routine rounds throughout the facility. 

Additionally, more than 20 video cameras operate throughout the building to offer surveillance. Inmates take part in rehabilitation programs such as counseling and substance abuse treatment. Inmates also take part in bible study and worship services twice a week. 

Visitation 

The Macon County Jail allows visits for dorms 1 and 2 from 1:00 am to 3:30 pm on weekends and 4:30 pm to 5:00 pm for the female dorm. Inmates benefit from visits because imprisonment can be mentally exhausting. The prison encourages visitors to keep up routine visits to check on the inmates’ well-being. Inmates and visitors must abide by the visitation guidelines. All visitors must submit to a body search and a search on their vehicles. Visitors should also observe the dress code set or risk getting their visits canceled. Children should be accompanied by their parents or legal guardian. Visits at Macon County jail last for fifteen minutes, and each inmate can only be visited once a day. 

Phone Calls 

Inmates within Macon County jail can make calls to family and friends at a cost. For inmates to make a call, they must first register a pre-paid account and deposit money in the account. Phone calls have to be monitored and recorded for safety purposes. Inmates can only call a limited number of individuals registered with the prison to receive inmate calls.

The Macon County sheriff’s office at 1820 Lakeside Drive, Franklin, NC 28734, provides law enforcement services in the unincorporated areas of Macon County. The sheriff’s office operates from Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. Other responsibilities of the Macon County sheriff’s office include.
