Jones County has a very small population, and its county jail does not receive a lot of inmates. Most inmates incarcerated in the Jones County Detention Center have short sentences of less than a year. To access inmate information, use the following: avenues: 

Jones County Sheriff’s Office 

The Jones County Sheriff’s office provides a list of inmates in the Jones County Detention Center at its physical location in Trenton. To access the inmate roster, visit the sheriff’s office or the county detention center and request the information. The information provided on the roster shows the inmate’s name, age, gender, race, booking date, release date, and charges. Medical records are private and can only be accessed with the inmate’s consent. An alternative method is to contact the sheriff’s office by phone at 252-448-0035or by fax at 252-448-1693 and ask for the inmate’s information.  

The North Carolina Department of Public Safety (NCDPS) 

The North Carolina Department of Public Safety has an inmate locator search tool that gives access to all inmates in the state, including Jones County Detention Center. The inmate locator uses the inmate’s first name, gender, last name, sex, offender number, ethnic group, and date of birth to run the search. You can also use the NC SAVAN (North Carolina Statewide Automated Victim Assistance and Notification) search tool, which provides inmate information through text and email notifications. By registering for the NC SAVAN service, victims and their families can receive confidential notifications on the inmate’s custody status. 

Using the Sex Offender Registry 

The Jones County Sheriff’s Office maintains the Jones County sex offender registry. The registry consists of all registered sex offenders, whether in jail or residing in the County. The registry will be very helpful in locating an inmate who has been found guilty of a sex crime. The registry shows the inmate’s:

  • Residential location 

About Jones County Jail and Other Prisons/Jails in Jones County 

Jones County has only one jail facility, the Jones County Detention Center. 

Jones County Detention Center  

Jones County Detention Center is located at 101 S Market St., Trenton, NC 28585. The jail occupies the basement of the Jones County Courthouse. The building was built in 1939 to house male and female inmates. In 2009, a 3-bed section for housing women was added. Currently, the facility is capable of housing 21 inmates. The Jones County Jail is a short-term facility where inmates either serve relatively light sentences or wait for a trial or sentencing for a crime. The county sheriff’s office oversees the operations of the jail. The sheriff’s office has contracted Southern Health Partners to provide medical care to inmates in the facility. Officers are also trained to care for inmates if the on-call nurse is unavailable. 

Visitation 

Jones County Detention Facility offers visits through Iweb video visitation. Visit www.iwebvisits.com on your browser create an account, and follow the instructions on initiating a video visit. The facility also offers on-site video visitation each Thursday from 1 pm to 5 pm. Inmates are allowed two visitors per visit for 15 minutes only. Visitors must call 252-448-7091 to schedule a visit on Wednesday from 8:30 am to 11:30 am. 

Inmate Mail and Phone 

Inmates in the facility also receive mail privileges. Family and friends are encouraged to write to inmates as communication with the outside world help with rehabilitation and re-entry. All mail is subject to search for contraband and content that may endanger the jail’s security or safety or contribute to other illegal activities. 

Inmates can also make outgoing phone calls through Pay Tel. To receive phone calls from inmates, families must have Pay Tel set up on their phones.

Jones County Sheriff’s Office is the primary law enforcement, ensuring that all local, state and federal laws are followed. The sheriff’s office maintains law and order by cooperating with the community. The Jones County Sheriff’s Office is located at 792 Hwy 58 S, Trenton, NC 28585. The sheriff’s office is responsible for all operations and inmate welfare in the Jones County Detention Center through the jail division. The jail division oversees inmate transport to and from the court or other jurisdictions. The patrol division is responsible for policing the boundaries of Jones County, responding to emergencies, and enforcing traffic rules. Other responsibilities of the sheriff’s office include. 

  • Conducting criminal investigation 
  • Providing courthouse security 
  • Serving civil papers 
  • Arresting offenders 

About Jones County 

Jones County in North Carolina was established in 1779 and named after Willie Jones, a planter, revolutionary leader, and president of the North Carolina committee of safety during the war. The United States 2020 Census shows that Jones County is the least populated County in North Carolina, with 9,172 people, 4,045 households, and 2,644 families. The census data also shows that Jones County occupies an area of 473 square miles, 471 square miles of land, and 2.5 square miles of water.
