About Clay County Detention Facility 

The Clay County Detention facility is the largest minimum-security prison office in Clay County. It is arranged on ten sections of land in metropolitan Hayesville at 281 Court House Drive, Haysville, NC, 28904. It was founded in 1935.  

Clay County detention facility has 52-bed office housing pre-preliminary inmates. Due to the jail’s high population, the facility provides reintegration programming to male condemned offenders. 

The Clay detention center has monthly average bookings of about 201 and is supervised by 73 well-trained staff members. In addition, in an average year, the facility utilizes more than 26 inmates in its in-office work lines to assist the administration with its kitchen, clothing, and other activities. 

Moreover, the Clay detention center has inmate work programs to house state prisoners assigned as part of the joint county work program, sheriff Trustees, or jail support. The inmates perform building maintenance, grass cutting, construction projects, and trash pickup, among other responsibilities. 

About Clay County Sheriff’s Office 

Clay County Sheriff’s Office is a law enforcement agency located at 345 Courthouse Drive, Suite Hayesville, NC28904. The office is in charge of patrolling any unincorporated parts of the County and enforcing legal judgments such as foreclosures, tax delinquencies, and repossessions. The sheriff’s office work in hand with the following divisions; 

Patrol Division 

The Clay County sheriff’s office patrol division offers professional deputy response and investigation of law enforcement-related emergencies and reports criminal offenses. The division’s primary goal is to prevent injuries, deaths, and property loss caused by driver intoxication and careless driving. Moreover, the division work on special duties or is part of special teams such as Marine patrol, K-9 unit, Dive team, SWAT, Forest, and Mountain patrol. The division is responsible for providing animal control services, including shelter, medical care, and food. 

Civil Division 

The Clay County sheriff’s office civil division provides a wide range of quality services to the citizens within the County. The division comprises two major categories which include; 

  • Notice Process- the primary function of the notice process is to notify persons about ongoing legal proceedings, including summons, subpoenas, and restraining orders. 
  • Enforcement Process- the enforcement process processes various orders such as seizure and sale of property and real property foreclosures. 

Support Services 

The Clay County sheriff’s office support services division is the pillar of the sheriff’s office. The 911 communications and dispatch center, records, IT, recruitment, and training are all part of the division. The division provides volunteer programs such as neighborhood watch, search and rescue, reserve deputies, and mounted posse. 

Correction Program Division 

The Correction Programs work hand in hand with the Correction division, which is responsible for providing inmates programs, supervising inmates assigned to different duties, and supervising the sheriff’s inmate work crew. 

Investigation Division 

The Clay County sheriff’s office detective division investigates major cases concerning personal crimes, property and narcotics offenses, and computer crimes. 

About Clay County 

Clay County, situated in the mountain parts of southwestern North Carolina, was formed from Cherokee County in 1961 and named after Henry Clay. Henry Clay was a congressional leader and presidential candidate from Kentucky. Its county seat is Hayesville, and according to the 2020 Census, it has a population of about11089. In addition, the County has a total area of 221 square miles (570km), according to statistics from the U.S. Census Bureau.
