With two jails in the county, locating an inmate in Bertie County is fast. If you do not know where to check, your first destination is the Bertie County Jail inmate roster. This is because all individuals arrested within the county are transferred to this facility to serve time here until their court cases are completed. However, note that these inmates are denied bail or cannot pay bail.

The inmate roster is searchable by the following;

  • Name
  • Date of incarceration.

If you cannot find the inmate using the inmate roster, you may visit or call the jail at 252-794-9283 and ask about the whereabouts of your inmate. This is because inmates who have not completed their booking and orientation processes are unavailable on the inmate roster.

Other ways of finding an inmate in Bertie County

If you cannot locate them in the county jail, you can utilize the NCDPS offender search to see if they are in the Bertie Correctional Institution or any other state facility.

You can also use the BOP inmate locator to see if they are in federal prisons. Here you need to indicate the name of the offender you need to find. You can use the number option for a more straightforward search, as numbers are personal. You can indicate the correct INS, DCDC, FBI, or BOP register numbers federal inmates receive upon incarceration.

Third-Party websites

To locate an inmate using a third-party website, you should find a website that offers access to the NC public records. Per NC Freedom of Information, inmate records are public records, and so are their whereabouts. You can find an inmate by name, date of incarceration, or county of imprisonment.

NC VINELink

The NCDPS offers free national resources to crime victims in the county, NC VINELink. If you are a crime victim, the department urges you to register and keep a record of your offender. You can receive updates by phone, email, or text.
